To answer this question right at the top, the answer is no it isn't. Not if you are willing to work at getting your business ready, and patient enough to learn from your mistakes. There is no doubt that if you have surfed the net that you landed on numerous E-Commerce Business sites.
Many of them are impressive, and you may think that you could never design something like that, or have a business as successful as that. Well actually yes you can, thankfully in part to the wonderful and amazing technology that is available on line.
Notice I said 'in part' though. This means you are the one that has to utilize that technology properly if you are going to launch a E-Commerce business, whether big or small. Most likely if you are new to internet business then you are going to want to start small.
Don't think that because it's a E-Commerce store that there are no downfalls. You must consider that there will be down times to your site. Hopefully this is far and few between. Your hosting company will have times that they need to perform maintenance or they run into difficulties from time to time. Then of course you will have your share of broken links to stay on top of.
Don't assume that just because you offer pay pal that you are not ready to do business around the globe. Many countries do not necessarily take advantage of this method of payment.
You must also consider the geographical areas that you are going to service. Just because you have an E-Commerce business doesn't mean you have to sell to the world. You are the one that determines where you will ship to. On the other hand it doesn't mean that you can't sell to the world either. You need to be well aware of exporting your products to foreign countries though there are rules and regulations that you must follow and these differ from country to country.
If you wholesale your products to retailers that doesn't necessarily mean you can't have a E-Commerce wholesale business. After all you have the business right to actively pursue potential customers just like the retailers do. It will be up to you to make the business decision whether you are only going to deal with wholesale customers, or whether you are going to tap the retail market as well. Word of caution here though, your retail clients are not going to look favorably upon you selling to the retail sector at the same price they are getting your items for. You are going to have to set some very stringent business guidelines and polices in these matters.
You need to have a good marketing and advertising plan in place. You will need to do some really good research in internet marketing is new to you. There is lots of opportunity out there on the web to get yourself known
